Gerard Benedet joined 16 other local business leaders and CEOs to cook alongside celebrated chefs, preparing and sharing a meal with OzHarvest community guests experiencing hardship in the ACT.
The team made AK’s Granpa’s Yello Dhall Sambar and Vegetable Achar with steamed rice, with Gerard Benedet describing an evening of hard work, fun and a shared commitment to supporting people in need.
Most importantly, the night produced an impressive result.
Gerard Benedet exceeded his fundraising pledge, raising more than $6,572. With every dollar equivalent to two meals, that represents more than 13,145 meals for people in the local community.
“Last night I had the honour of participating in my second OzHarvest CEO CookOff in Canberra,” Gerard Benedet said. “We worked hard, with some fun along the way, to create a meal to share alongside community guests of OzHarvest.”

The event continues Gerard Benedet’s support for OzHarvest, after his participation last year helped generate more than 16,000 meals for Canberrans doing it tough.
And the Guild’s involvement isn’t finished yet.
Mario’s next into the kitchen
NSW Branch President Mario Barone will take his turn at the OzHarvest CEO CookOff in Sydney on 12 November, joining other leaders to cook and serve a three-course meal for people in the community doing it tough.
Mario Barone said his motivation was simple: helping put more meals on the table for people facing food insecurity and cost-of-living pressures.
“I want to do my small bit to help feed those who need support right now,” he said. “Any contribution, no matter the amount, would mean a lot and will help put more meals on the table.” Every $1 raised helps provide two meals, so members of the community pharmacy sector can get behind Mario Barone and help extend the impact even further.
