Successful implementation extends beyond the prescribing pharmacist. Owners, managers, pharmacists and pharmacy assistants all contribute to the patient experience. The Hub recognises this shared responsibility, helping teams prepare together to make clinical services part of everyday practice.
Nine Hub sections, one purpose
The Hub’s nine sections address the preparation and decisions to underpin service delivery. They support pharmacies from initial exploration through to sustainable service delivery.
1. Scope overview sets the scene. It explains what scope of practice means for community pharmacy and how it is evolving across Australia. It brings together national progress maps, a state-by-state guide to services pharmacists can deliver, and practical answers to frequently asked questions.
2. Strategy and readiness helps pharmacies assess their readiness to adopt expanded scope services and identify the steps needed for progress. Teams can define their strategy, use the opportunities analysis calculator and plan for sustainable service delivery. Practical change-management tools are available to support you to embed scope services and bring the entire team on the journey.
3. Education and training provides information on current education pathways and prepares teams to translate their learning into practice. With resources on Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) preparation, working with a dedicated prescriber and upskilling pharmacy assistants, the pharmacy team is supported to build capability and confidence to deliver services.
4. Premises and operational readiness explores the environment where care is delivered before a service opens. The Hub prompts consideration of a patient focused environment - pharmacy layout, patient flow, consultation room set-up, equipment, digital enablement, team readiness, appointments and documentation.
5. Legislation and governance outlines the requirements and responsibiliti e s of the whole team to support safe care. Resources highlight jurisdiction-specific legislation, professional standards, policies, consent, privacy, risk management and clinical governance expectations.
6. Scope service implementation supports teams to move from planning to action by providing practical guidance on implementing services. It includes guidance on workflows, triage tools, team role clarity and other resources to support patient engagement, documentation and continuous improvement.
7. Clinical resources library provides a central point forresources that support consultations, documentation, clinical decision-making, follow-up and referral. It helps establish reliable, repeatable processes reflecting current requirements and evidence.
8. Marketing and communications assists withclear and consistent messaging to help patients understand the services available, who may benefit and how to access them. Communication resources support engagement with local health professionals and the wider community. They build awareness, referral pathways and trust.
9. News and media keeps teams informed about scope developments, implementation milestones and emerging opportunities. Timely news can help you follow the broader conversation, share progress and explain the value of expanded services to your community.
Start where you are
Every pharmacy has a different starting point. Some teams are considering their service options while others are ready to introduce services or refine existing processes.
You do not need to work through everything at once. Begin with the section that addresses your immediate question then use the wider Hub to identify what else needs attention.
Use the resources in team discussions and meetings. Choose a priority, agree on responsibilities, and set an achievable next step to give your whole team a path forward. The aim is to build services patients can access confidently, and your team can deliver consistently.
We invite you to explore the Hub, share it with your team and use it to support the next stage of your pharmacy’s journey.
