As part of a project to showcase historical pharmacy artefacts from its archives, PGA's Queensland branch is installing a display cabinet which requires the relocation of a striking artwork whcih has hung in its offices for as long as anyone can remember.
The piece is a distinctive example of vintage brutalist‑style design, featuring classic pharmacy imagery including a mortar and pestle and a set of scales. It appears to be crafted from brass.
No clues found
Despite extensive efforts, the QLD branch been unable to identify the artwork’s origins.
Searches for an artist’s signature or maker’s mark have drawn a blank, and enquiries with current and former committee members, past directors of the branch and long‑serving staff have failed to shed light on its history.
Profession may know
Given the strong pharmacy themes depicted in the piece, there is a belief someone within the profession may know its story.
It may have been a gift, a commissioned work, or a significant presentation piece from decades gone by.
The QLD branch hopes the pharmacy community can help uncover the history behind the striking artwork and ensure an important piece of pharmacy heritage is not lost to time.
Anyone with information about the piece, its creator, or its history is encouraged to get in touch.
Even the smallest detail or recollection could help solve the mystery.
