More than two million Western Australians will have access to a no-cost influenza vaccination this year as the State Government launches its expanded Winter Strategy 2026, aimed at reducing the impact of seasonal illness through improved access to preventive healthcare.

From Friday May 1, more than 540 community pharmacies across Western Australia will offer a range of no‑cost influenza and RSV vaccinations as part of the statewide initiative.

This marks the fifth consecutive year community pharmacy has partnered with the Government to provide no‑cost influenza vaccinations.

In 2026, the program has broadened to include:

  • FluMist®, an intranasal option for children aged 2–11 years
  • Injectable influenza vaccines for children from 2 years of age (previously from 5 years)
  • The RSV vaccine Arexvy® for people aged 65–74 years living in residential aged care homes

Pharmacies remain a key access point for vaccination, operating extended hours with more than 90 percent open on weekends.

Protecting the community

Vaccination provides direct protection while helping prevent the spread of influenza and RSV, safeguarding those who may be more vulnerable to serious complications.

Increased uptake can reduce severe cases and hospitalisations, easing pressure on Emergency Departments and preserving capacity for patients with urgent needs.

Timely program launch

The program’s commencement aligns with World Immunisation Week, encouraging Western Australians to speak with their community pharmacist about available vaccines.

Pharmacists can provide advice, check vaccination records and administer a range of vaccines, including those protecting against measles, shingles and hepatitis B.

While many pharmacies offer walk-in services, patients can also book appointments at findapharmacy.com.au
