The Guild’s National President, Professor Trent Twomey, said the plan was not just a roadmap, “but a declaration of an unwavering belief in the power of community pharmacy to create healthier communities”.
“This is a future underpinned by the patient–practitioner–practice relationship,” Professor Twomey said.
Healthier communities are created when patients are placed at the centre of care, practitioners are empowered, and pharmacy practices can thrive.

Key priorities in the plan include expanding pharmacy services, increasing access to essential care, strengthening professional development, ensuring sustainability across the sector.
The strategy was shaped through one of the Guild’s most extensive member consultation in its history, drawing on input from Guild members in capital cities, rural towns, and remote communities.
Professor Twomey said the collaborative approach reflected the diversity, dedication, and aspirations of those who live and breathe community pharmacy.
“For generations, community pharmacies have stood as trusted pillars in towns, suburbs, and cities across the nation,” he said.
“They are places where care is personal, access is local, and support is always close at hand.”
He said the Towards 2035 plan would see Australia’s communities ‘think pharmacy first’ for healthcare.
“This strategy is guided by our purpose to create healthier communities and driven by our mission to serve, empower and ignite the full potential of community pharmacies.”
Professor Twomey said the plan also reflected the Guild’s values of authenticity, connection, and excellence.
It calls on all of us to embrace innovation, champion accessibility, and lead with integrity.

The Guild said the strategy would reinforce the role of community pharmacies as a cornerstone of Australia’s primary healthcare system.
Professor Twomey said achieving the 10-year vision would require courage, collaboration, and commitment - but he said he was confident in the profession’s readiness.
“With the support of our members and partners together with the communities we serve, we will continue to grow as a cornerstone of Australia’s primary healthcare system.”
“Together, let us step forward towards innovation, towards empowerment, and ultimately, Towards 2035.”
