National Pharmacies has partnered with one of Australia’s leading primary healthcare providers to offer members and customers 24/7 access to specialist GPs, following a successful trial showing the need for after-hours healthcare.

Australia’s largest friendly society pharmacy and optical business, National Pharmacies, has today announced the introduction of telehealth service TeleWell in partnership with Partnered Health.

TeleWell is serviced round-the-clock by Partnered Health GPs who are vocationally registered, which means they have undergone advanced training in the speciality of general practice.

National Pharmacies is the first community pharmacy group to have access to TeleWell, further strengthening its commitment to providing greater access to community health care after opening South Australia’s first 24/7 community pharmacy last year.

A six-month trial of the TeleWell service by National Pharmacies found that four out of every ten customers accessed the telehealth service after hours (after 8pm weekdays and after 6pm weekends).

National Pharmacies members and customers can book a GP consultation via the National Pharmacies website. TeleWell’s specialist GPs can provide diagnosis, treatment, and prescriptions, which can be sent electronically to a local National Pharmacies store.

National Pharmacies is delighted to partner with Partnered Health to provide our members and customers access to expert healthcare when it’s needed most and help relieve pressure on our health system.

We know from demand for our 24/7 pharmacy that health emergencies can occur any time of the day or night, and now, with TeleWell, we will be able to provide full-circle, quality health care that is patient-centred and links to your local expert pharmacist.

National Pharmacies CEO Vito Borrello

Partnered Health and National Pharmacies share a commitment to caring for people and enabling access to quality healthcare. That’s why we have partnered to offer greater access to high-quality online care through TeleWell.

TeleWell’s vocationally registered GPs provide personalised care for a range of needs, from urgent afterhours repeat prescriptions to treatment for acute or infectious conditions.

We take the time to support patients with clinical expertise and, with their consent, link back to their regular GPs and pharmacists to ensure continuity and the highest standard of care.
