The network is a landmark initiative dedicated to strengthening culturally safe, accessible and community led healthcare for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across Australia.
The Hon Linda Burney MP was appointed as its inaugural Chair of the First Nations Pharmacy Network in November 2025.
Individuals who are committed to shaping the future of pharmacy practice in ways which uphold cultural safety and self determination are encouraged to submit an expression of interest to be a part of the organisation.
The closing date for submissions is Monday February 9.
How it will work
The First Nations Pharmacy Network will meet at least four times a year — through a combination of in-person and online meetings — to consider and advance the health outcomes of First Nations Australians and to promote cultural safety in the programs and services delivered through community pharmacy.
The new network represents an exciting opportunity to work alongside leaders in community pharmacy and First Nations health.
Community pharmacies play a vital role as trusted points of care where relationships are built, knowledge is shared and people make informed decisions about their wellbeing.
What it will do
The First Nations Pharmacy Network aims to ensure every pharmacy becomes a place of cultural connection, respect and healing for First Nations communities.
The First Nations Pharmacy Network will provide a national platform to:
- Elevate First Nations voices in community pharmacy policy and practice
- Co design strategies that improve access to medicines and primary care
- Support workforce development and cultural capability across the sector
- Drive community led solutions to Closing the Gap health priorities
Collaboration and partnership are essential. By bringing together lived experience, cultural leadership and professional expertise, the network seeks to ensure the health system better reflects the needs and aspirations of First Nations peoples.
Interested individuals are encouraged to submit an expression of interest and join this important work.
How to apply
Applicants should briefly outline their contact details, their experience working with First Nations communities or in pharmacy or health, why they wish to join the new network and what they can contribute, and confirm they are able to attend the four meetings held each year.
