As the current Pharmacy Assistant of the Year title holder, Victoria‑based Jessica Brown is already experiencing the opportunities which can come from national recognition.

She was celebrated on the front page of Australasian Pharmacy magazine in November 2026 and was interviewed by APP TV on the Gold Coast in Australia in March 2026.

Jessica told AFT Pharmaceuticals the award has been far more than a single evening of celebration, or the following interviews.

She says the journey itself — from nomination through to state judging and ultimately the national finals — has provided opportunities to reflect on her achievements, build confidence and connect with pharmacy assistants and industry leaders from across Australia.

A key part of the program involved showcasing the initiatives and contributions she has made within her pharmacy and community.

Community focus

Jessica’s nomination highlighted her commitment to patient care, professional development and supporting the important role community pharmacy plays in improving health outcomes.

Through the award process, she had the opportunity to share the projects and initiatives she has been involved in and demonstrate the significant contribution pharmacy assistants make every day.

Reflecting on the experience, Jessica says the recognition validated the work she and so many other pharmacy assistants undertake behind the scenes.

“The award reinforced that the work we do every day truly makes a difference.”

New connections

The national title has also opened doors to new opportunities and connections.

Jessica says one of the most rewarding aspects of winning has been the opportunity to connect with peers from across the country, broaden her professional networks and engage with industry leaders she may never otherwise have met.

Growing confidence

The experience has strengthened her confidence and reinforced her passion for patient care, professional development and mentoring others within community pharmacy.

Importantly, it has also highlighted the many career pathways available within the profession and the role pharmacy assistants can play in shaping the future of community pharmacy.

Looking ahead

As she looks to the future, Jessica remains committed to continuing her professional growth while delivering the compassionate, personalised care that first inspired her career in pharmacy.

She hopes her journey encourages other pharmacy assistants to step forward and recognise the value of the work they do.
