The Pharmacy Guild of Australia's Victoria Branch has committed AUD1.5 million to support the development of a full-scope pharmacist workforce in Victoria.

The Pharmacist Prescribing Training Fund will be available to Victoria's PGA member pharmacists and their sponsored employees undertaking Monash University’s Graduate Certificate of Pharmacist Prescribing.

This investment is about empowering pharmacists to take on an expanded role in patient care,”

This initiative aims to strengthen primary healthcare by enabling pharmacists to deliver full scope of practice services, improving patient access and reducing pressure on our overstretched healthcare system.

Under the program, eligible applicants will receive up to AUD5,000 in reimbursement upon successful completion of the Monash course.

Funding is available to financial members of PGA's Victoria Branch and their employees. Scholarships for the first intake of students are available to one pharmacist per member pharmacy. Applications will open in line with Monash University’s enrolment schedule.

“This investment is about empowering pharmacists to take on an expanded role in patient care,” said Pharmacy Guild of Australia, Victoria Branch President, George Tambassis.

“By supporting pharmacists to undertake training to become pharmacist prescribers, we are helping to build a more accessible and sustainable healthcare system for Victorians.”

“We know patients rely on highly accessible community pharmacies for their healthcare needs, and we are pleased to support our members to provide patients with a higher level of care for more everyday health conditions,” said George Tambassis.

Details on the scholarship fund will be made available to Pharmacy Guild of Australia's Victoria Branch members directly.

Non-member pharmacists with interest in applying for the Victorian scholarship are encouraged to submit their enquiries to membership@vic.guild.org.au
